I have an XBOX 360 and 2 laptops. Xbox 360 was previously connected to Laptop A. Wireless conection was configured to share internet connection and this allowed the XBOX to connect to Live through the laptop. Recently, I have tried the same setup with my brothers laptop, Laptop B. It worked the same. However, my brother found some Malware and we restored his computer to factory settings for it to work. I went to reconfigure the laptop the same exact way again and it no longer works. Live Diagnostic run on the XBOX indicates an insufficient MTU. Connections show positive for network and internet but not live. I manually adjusted the MTU to the windows XP default in the registry. (1460) Problem persist. Any ideas on how to make this work? if it's even possible you need a crossover cable and will need to set static IP addresses on that network card and the Xbox. You will then prolly have to enable the Internet Connection Sharing setting on the computer. Hopefully someone will give you some instructions- I have to go sell my car

well, well, well the troubles ive had with establishing a continous connection, my problem is well, ive looked over the internet for about a week on youtube ect for a way to properly connect to xbox live.
I got my xbox bout 1 month ago and it took me 2 nights to get a connection up and running, then 1 day later it wouldnt work, i checked my settings in networks and it was all the same. I tried again a few days later then it worked then 2 days later it wouldn't!
Ive tried bridging connections, changing my MAC address on the console, reseting the console, enabling sharing on my network, reseting the Ip adress and ive gone intothe protocol thing allowed xbox through. But when I put the Ethernet cable into the computer, it verifys the connection and says that it is local. It always says local, Ive tried EVERYTHING!!!

The laptop will need two internet connections, for example one wireless and one wired. Go to control Panel and Network and Sharing Center. From there on the left side of the screen go to network connections. The hiughlight both of your connections and right click, bridge connections.

You need to access your router's settings. Generally the ip address of a Belkin router is 192.86.2.1 (yours could be different, check your manual) in any case you only have a certain number of ip addresses available. So either plug your router into the modem, or plug her laptop into the modem, not both. It'll say network cable unplugged, or if I'm lucky, Unidentified network. I've tried several different ethernet cables, some brand new. I've even tried doing a manual IP address. Nothing seems to work. But then there are the times that it does connect, and it seems so random, it's almost like it's deciding on its own.
Its just that this has been going on for months and it's really pissing me off since my Live subscription is going to waste.

For my bday I got an Xbox Live subscription but I need to know if it is possible to connect to live with a toshiba satellite laptop that is connected to the internet through wifi to a router. I need to connect my Xbox 360 to Xbox Live, but I need some help in figuring out how to do this.
We currently have in our office - a gateway (I think or it could be just a modem, Xbox.com confused me about which is which) that is hooked to the cable and the phone jack (as we get our phone via cable) and has an ethernet connection to both our wireless router and the desktop computer. If it makes any difference, it's Mediacom cable with whatever the standard gateway/router whatever, and a Netgear 802.11G router for wireless.
The problem is that where we have the Xbox is on the TV in the family room, which is on the same level but I don't want to run an ethernet cable from one room to another, although obviously there is also a standard coaxial cable input in the family room for the TV, and I could easily put in a splitter or something. My big question which Xbox.com doesn't answer - is there any way to connect the Xbox 360 to the cable input directly (although obviously there'd be an adaptor or something) without running something wired back to the gateway/modem in the office? I'm guessing no, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.
Otherwise, it seems like my choice seems to be:
Option 1) Simple and easy - buying a wireless adaptor for the Xbox (like this one - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7457432%26amp;type=product%26amp;id=1126591945477 for about $100). For people who've used it, how does the Xbox run on wireless? Our network seems to be pretty good - at least for with my laptop, I seem to do pretty well being able to run streaming video from netflix upstairs without too much trouble (occasional freezes) - but I'm not sure if he really wants to play Halo 3 online at some point if that would work. Will it dramatically slow the wireless network for my laptop if he's using the Xbox at the same time? (This happens fairly often)
or
Option 2) Slightly more complicated - Buy a cable splitter, then move the modem/gateway and the wireless router to the family room, plugging the Xbox into the wired ethernet port, and then getting a wireless connection for the desktop. I don't feel comfortable installing a card into the desktop, but it looks like I can get a usb based adaptor for $35-50 bucks (also from best buy - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=abcat0503007%26amp;type=category - Anyone have experience with them or advice over which to get?). That puts a lot of stuff feeding off that one cable output - the Faux Tivo and TV, as well as the Xbox, the phone, and the wireless -, but I don't think that should be a problem as it's all just wired to the same connection box when it comes into the house anyway (right?). Besides being cheaper (probably less than $50 all together to do that), as we rarely use the desktop and the laptop at the same time, it wouldn't run into the two wireless devices at the same time problem, which I think slows the system (although that could be entirely wrong). well to sum everything u just said up to a easy simple choice for u to make sense ur the one that's going to play it is
1.wireless is easier to deal with but u run the risk for having a bad connection,(lag), even if another player has bad connection ur xbox will suffer as well.
2. cable, more of a pain to deal with, never have lag in ur connection fast updates and downloads.
for ur gaming experience i would go with the cable.
i would do wireless.. i would get a better router if thats the problem or the connection by your modem.... Try Finding a Gaming Router(better download speeds,connections,(etc.) or find a A router similar to b+g but a/b/g will work perfect also... i would not do option number 2 .... might be lacking connection

First, you need one computer, called the host computer, that is connected to the Internet and that has a separate connection to the other computers on your network. You enable ICS on the Internet connection. The other computers on your network then connect to the host computer, and from there to the Internet through the host computer's shared Internet connection.

To use ICS, make sure the local area network (LAN) connection on each network computer is configured to get an IP address automatically. To do this:
Click to open Network Connections.
Right-click the LAN connection, and then click Properties. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), and then click Properties.
Click Obtain an IP address automatically or Obtain an IPv6 address automatically.
The Internet options on your network computers should also be configured for ICS. For more information, see Change Internet settings for ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).
Do not use ICS on a network with domain controllers, DNS servers, gateways, or DHCP servers. And don't use ICS on systems configured for static IP addresses.
ICS and VPN connections
If you create a virtual private network (VPN) connection on your host computer to a corporate network and then enable ICS on that connection, all Internet traffic is routed to the corporate network and all of the computers on your home network can access the corporate network. If you don't enable ICS on the VPN connection, other computers will not have access to the Internet or corporate network while the VPN connection is active on the host computer.
ICS and ad hoc networks
If you share your Internet connection on an ad hoc network, ICS will be disabled if:
You disconnect from the ad hoc network.
You create a new ad hoc network without disconnecting from the ad hoc network for which you enabled ICS.
You log off and then log back on (without disconnecting from the ad hoc network).

I recently switched out my primary laptop for a semi-old one, and it can go on the internet and such (I'm using it now). I bridged the connections just like I did with the perfectly working laptop, and it says that the bridge is active. Although I've seen similar questions, I haven't seen this exact one.

I get my internet service through Verizon wireless with a small USB modem card. After reading up and watching alot of youtube videos on this subject, I decided to try to connect my xbox to live using my wireless internet laptop since i don't want to spend 100$ on a xbox wireless router. You could probably use the Internet Connection Sharing, You use the PC as the host computer to share your connection with. You then setup the X Box as a client in order to get a connection.

Need help connecting Laptop w/ XP to Xbox Live with ICS.?
I can't seem to get this working. I don't want to spend $100 on the wireless adapter so I figure I'll work at getting this method working. My router/modem is downstairs, and I'm on a laptop with build in wireless. I've read several guides but nothing seems to work. When I run my ethernet cable (not the one that came with the 360), I get IP issues connecting to Xbox Live. It says to check my statis IP and all of this other stuff I don't understand.
All I know is that I have two connections in my network connections. One called 1394 Connection which I'm assuming is Local/Default, and the Wireless Connection. ISC is only present under the 1394 connection, and whenever I enable it my internet disconnects until I untick ICS.
I know there's a way to do this though, because I've been doing it for weeks, or I was with my other PC that had Vista. I h athat PC and now I'm left with a laptop and little knowledge on how to do this.

I already had a bridge made but it didn't work so I deleted it and try to make a new one but I got his pop up ';To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internetconnections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing.'; noting changed how can i get it back to regular settings if something did change?I cannot connect to xbox live with my laptop anymore?

How do you connect your xbox 360 to the live option with your wirelss connection laptop?
I have just brought a Xbox 360 and someone told me that I didn't need to by the wireless network adapter and that I could run the live though my pc laptop I have all the leads in but Im not sure what to do next.
