Built in wireless router in my laptop, how do I connect to xbox live?

I have a built in wireless router in my laptop, and im trying to connect to my xbox 360 wireless adapter. but I don't know how. I'm just really confused. When I try to connect from my xbox 360, and I go and press scan for networks, my neighbors comes up. Do I need like a WEP key or something, because I can't find one. The laptop is a Dell inspiron 1520 with windows vista, i dont know if that helps or not but I just need help connecting to my xbox live with this built in wireless router. I tried creating my own network and I created the name and stuff but it said if you wanted it to be WEP or WPA and this other stuff, then it said to enter the key but I didn't have a key. So I'm really confused.Built in wireless router in my laptop, how do I connect to xbox live?
Laptops do not have wireless routers in them. They have wireless cards which can connect to wireless routers attached to your home network or wireless access points on wifi networks set up elsewhere.

Potentially you could create a ';peer-to-peer'; network to connect two laptops together (also known as adhoc networking). Some how though I don't think this will work with an Xbox 360 (I could be wrong).

Some additional details on networking with Vista can be found on this website:

Your laptop does not have a router built into it. It has a wireless card that acts similar to the adapter in the XBOX. You will need to purchase a router from a computer store and hook in up to your modem. Then you will be able to connect to it.

You need to get your own wireless Internet router to connect to it.
