Xbox live through laptop?

how can i take my laptop that is connected to the internet wirelessly and connect my xbox 360 to it to get xbox live? When i try to enable internet connection sharing it says a lan connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing. And when i bridge my wireless connection with either the local area connection or 1394 connection all it does is make my wireless connection not work. Does anyone know how to do this? My router is downstairs and i would really like to not have to pay $100 for the xbox wireless adapterXbox live through laptop?
(to the person above me:) it isn't the cable. it is an IP conflict between the wireless router and the laptop. crossover cables matter when you are bridging. not using ICS.

You are attempting to do it the right way. try to do Internet connection Sharing (on the wireless connection, which will provide internet to anything hooked up by ethernet). After it gives you the 'ip address conflict' notification, go to the LAN connection settings - right click it and click properties. go to tcp/ip configuration, and manually specify your IP address to be either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (whichever ip your wireless router is NOT).

this should fix it... but tell us the make and model of your router so if necessary people can be more specific.Xbox live through laptop?
your computer should automatically detect all nesecarry settings assuming your running xp or better. your problem probably lies in the cable your trying to use i bet your trying to use a patch cable which is meant to be run from a computer to a router or switch, to connect 2 comps directly you nee a crossover cable. go to a local comp shop and I bet they will make you one for $5 - $10. that should solve your problem.
