create a crossover cable. make sure you have a NIC card installed and not in use on your desktop. Connect the Xbox to the desktop with the crossover cat-5 cable utilizing your previously unused NIC. Dialup to the internet then follow the steps below to ebable Internet Connection Sharing (or ICS). Once your connected to the internet on the desktop and ICS is enabled, hop over to your Xbox and start setting up Xbox live just as if you had it hooked up to a broadband router.

NOTE: A crossover cable is CRITICAL and ICS will NOT run without it. Don't think for a second that a standard ';straight-through'; networking cable will work. It MUST be crossed over.
